This body of work is comprised of pieces I worked on over the course of 6 years in various locations including Venice Italy, New York City and the Bay Area. Each piece began as a figurative drawing and then moved through various layers of abstraction. As the work evolved, I became more interested in my interaction with the paper as a sculptural element rather than any particular image I could draft upon its surface. The paper itself reacted and changed with time and exposure to elements. Each location provided new materials and unique opportunities for experimentation. These pieces that began as picture planes, that is, the template of a traditional painting, became objects akin to abstract sculptures.
